3 Adwords Mistakes That Can Break You
Google Adwords is an extremely effective way to advertise online, but it has a certain learning curve. Internet marketers starting out with AdWords often make costly mistakes. Given below are a few simple mistakes that you should to stay away from.
Focusing on common keywords that are too broad, instead of using unique keywords is a mistake that many Adwords advertisers make. All this does is cost you money and dwindle your advertising budget. Take the word "furniture", for example, if you choose this as your keyword your results will not be what you want them to be. The possibility that someone using this as their search word is searious abou tbuying something is pretty slim. More focused keywords that match your product are key Broad scope keywords will not bring people to your site who are truly interested in your product. Another reason you want to narrow the focus of your keyword, is there is less competition there. An added bonus is that it will reduce your ad costs. To find the right keyword you will need to put yourself in the mind set that your prospects will have.
Another mistake to avoid is using the content network of Google to display your ads. You will find that this network is made up of partnering websites that use a program called AdSense to show their Google ads. People viewing your ad could easily be distracted since these are not target sites. Besides that, even if you achieve a good click through rate with them, the conversion rate will be low. In the end, leaving the content network on will lead to large amounts of wasted money on ads, with very little investment. And on the other hand, you can't track these ads easily which makes it more difficult for you. Therefore, it is in your best interest to remember to turn the content network off prior to starting a new campaign. Be sure that your focus is on the Google search results and their partners.
If you're new to Adwords, and also for any new campaign, you always should set your daily budget, or ad spend, to something low like $5 per day. Your daily budget determines how many impressions you'll get, so just set it low but high enough so you get a reasonable amount of traffic. You want to have enough impressions to get a good idea how well your ads convert, etc. A good idea is to raise your daily budget a little high, to a decent amount that you can afford. It's really no big deal because you have the ability to lower your daily budget.
The key to success with any PPC program is to learn how to do it the right way, and then have discipline.
